Handheld scanners for Nassau County type 2 mobile performance issues?

I've recently begun scanning the Nassau County public safety system during my commute. Right now, I'm using an older Uniden handheld scanner, but I keep experiencing signal dropouts and interference

For anyone monitoring Nassau County Type 2 systems, what handheld scanners do you use, and do they perform well in a moving car? I'm trying to determine if my radio might be the issue. I'd love to hear any tips or experiences you have

It's the antenna that came with the Uniden that isn't getting enough signal, and any little bit it does get is subject to multipath interference bouncing all over the place, which is brutal for P25 simulcast.
I'd strongly suggest investing in a good quality external antenna before you guy a new scanner, which can get pricey.
A mag-mount on your roof or trunk lid with some quality coax can make huge difference!
It gets the antenna outside the car body and gives it the ground plane it needs.
