Greetings. I get to have the first post on a forum just for ham radio. I come from a family of ham radio operators. And out of self defense became one in the 1970's. I am currently an Advanced Class and have a W4 call sign. Since they do not create Advanced Class licenses any longer I will not be testing for Extra. I did go through Novice, Technician, General and now Advanced.

I do have a daughter, son-in-law, 2 granddaughters and 3 grandsons that have become hams. They are starting out on 2M and the oldest grandson is starting in on HF.

I am hoping to meet other old timer hams and new hams also.

General class, 2013. I got interested doing SWL when I was a young tot. Now I am an old tot, focus on ECOMM, some HF stuff :). 2 meter nets, a 10m net and sometimes NTS.

Welcome to the forum, and I hope we build a great ham community.

Can you explain ECOMM stuff. I grew up and have been around HF bands and tube equipment and homebuilt equipment via hubby and dad. And some 2M when we were traveling in the early 1970's and there were no cell phones.

Hello fellow hamsters. My fascination with radio started at age 6, when my mother and I took a tour of the Voice of America transmitting station in NC. In high school I got a proper CB radio and that led to getting my Novice class ham ticket. After college I continued my love affair with radio for a while, then dropped out of the hobby for many years, although I always planned to return to it at some point. I'm now a General class operator and I'm active on HF—portable and fixed—sometimes VHF and occasionally run a WSPR transmitter. I also teach Morse code classes online for a STEM education center in MA.
